THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO SENT IN THEIR LOVINGLY KNITTED OR CROCHETED HATS
TO HELP FIGHT INFANT MORTALITY. WE MORE THAN MET OUR GOAL!

Thank you very much for making your beautiful infant hats. It is easy to see that you put your whole heart into this project. It is people like you that make the world such a special place. Thanks to your help I received seven hundred baby hats!

On September 30th I delivered to each of the six local hospital NICUs a bag which contained 97 infant hats, one to represent each infant who did not reach her first birthday in the District of Columbia.  Each hospital was overwhelmed by the artistry of these hats.

Some will be used to keep these little angels’ heads warm; other will be given as “Going Home” gifts to the infants when they leave the hospital with their families.

For those of you who did not make hats, your good wishes and prayers for our babies who are born too soon, too small and too sick, have helped guide this project.

Heads Up on Infant Mortality in DC!

Special thanks to:

NICU staff at Providence Hospital, Howard University Hospital, George Washington University Hospital, Children’s National Hospital, Washington Hospital Center, HSC Center for graciously accepting the gifts;

ICTC Members Shayla Boyd-Gill and Therese Robinson for hosting “Crochet Teach-In” events at their home;

Mocha Mom Juliet Harris for hosting a “Crochet Teach-In” and coordinating the hospital NICU hat delivery;

Mocha Mom Jessica Da Silva for coordinating District and Federal involvement;

Gretchen Powers, home birth mom and graphic designer for her artistic development of this project; and
