A recent CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association) position paper noted, "Throughout history, laboring women have been surrounded and attended by other women. There was usually a midwife present and then one or more other women to help the mother to remain as comfortable as possible, and to comfort, reassure, and protect her space as she labors."
Birthing Hands carries on this tradition of bringing support, information and non-medical comfort to assist laboring mothers. We are professionals, trained and experienced in childbirth. We believe it is our duty and responsibility to share the "woman wisdom" lovingly passed down from one generation of women to another. With this knowledge, an expectant mother can confidently respond to her laboring body's preparation for childbirth.
A Birthing Hands doula will never leave a laboring woman. We are present, alert, supportive, responsive, and maintain a continuity of care throughout the labor and birth. It is the basis of our practice to help women have a safe and satisfying birth experience on her journey to motherhood.
